Our short-term assistance addresses immediate needs, including financial aid, transportation, home improvement, and maintenance. For long-term support, we offer resources such as occupational assistance, educational funding, and opportunities for meaningful travel and experiences. Our commitment is enduring, ensuring every Hero and their family receives comprehensive, lifelong support within their community. All donations and support remain local.

What is a Hero?

At the Joshua Chamberlain Society, we define a Hero as “someone who puts themselves in harm’s way for the betterment of others.”
Our military service members embody this definition. That’s why we have a unique mission: to adopt, for life, local veterans who have sustained severe combat injuries, as well as the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

Our Heroes have endured immense hardship in service to our country. We have the privilege of giving back—whether by helping a wounded veteran secure accessible housing or supporting the children of fallen warriors with college expenses. Beyond these efforts, we stand ready to provide daily support, ensuring our Heroes can lead fulfilling lives despite their challenges.
