JCS Heroes

JCS Heroes are the beneficiaries of the Joshua Chamberlain Society’s fundraising efforts. As resources allow, approximately yearly, the Society identifies and adopts a military service member who becomes a JCS Hero for life. In the same fashion that our service members have sacrificed for their country forever, the Society is dedicated to making an on-going commitment to our Heroes for the remainder of their lives (or the life of their spouse and/or children, for fallen Heroes).

The Society seeks out and finds heroes, dubbing them as such without the need for them to formally "apply." JCS Heroes are extraordinarily special veterans, whose sacrifice for their country has become a life-long one, as a result of a serious injury or death. For these JCS Heroes, and their families, our members strive to make a similar commitment, honoring them, even in small ways, for their heroic sacrifice. It is our goal to annually grow our family of JCS Heroes.

Few charities make such a long-standing commitment to the beneficiaries of their efforts. In this way, as a service member, or their family, is further removed from their injuries (or death), they will not feel that their country has "forgotten" about them and their continued suffering or sacrifice. As such, in its discretion (depending on the needs of each JCS Hero) yearly assistance is provided to the Hero (for example, a new wheelchair, a tuition supplement for a child, helping with basic needs, etc.). In short, our JCS Heroes become family members of the Joshua Chamberlain Society - an "adoption" in the true sense of the word.
